Spioenkop in Anglo-Boer War, Battlefields Region, KwaZulu-Natal
23-24 January 1900
The battle of Spioenkop was fought on the hilltop of Spioenkop, along the Tugela River approx 38km west-south-west of Ladysmith throughout 23-24 January 1900.
The battle was fought during the Anglo-Boer War between the South African Republic and the Orange Free State on the one side and the British forces on the other side, during a campaign to relieve Ladysmith.
It resulted in a British defeat.
