The Best Place to Be on the West Coast
The popular seaside village of Yzerfontein is a mere 80 km drive from Cape Town and marks the start of the Cape West Coast Region. This tranquil village is known for its tranquility, natural beauty and long sandy white beaches.
Yzerfontein is in fact home to the country’s longest stretch of beach, the 16 Mile Beach, which runs all the way up to the start of the West Coast National Park, the perfect beach to take a long lingering stroll along. Fishermen can fish for Snoek from the beach and the rocks, collect mussels and catch crayfish and the small craft harbor is perfect for launching boats and jetskis. These waters are famous for Snoek and Crayfish, about 60% of all the line fish caught along the West Coast happens here in this small harbor town.
There are plenty of nature reserves in the area which offer game viewing, 4 x 4 trails, mountain biking, excellent birdwatching and exceptionally beautiful hiking trails, the 7 km Skaapeiland Trail is a must for nature lovers. Visitors can also enjoy the Bokbaaivygie Flower Trail during spring time when the surrounding area explodes into colour!
Yzerfontein offers charming star-graded self-catering cottages and B&B’s for your holiday stay or weekend getaway.
