Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market

Your Family Market, Dogs are Welcome!

The Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market can be found at the Shongweni Farmers market in The Valley of 1000 Hills area of KwaZuku Natal in South Africa. The area lies between the city of Durban and Pietermaritzburg, approximately a half hours drive from Durban city centre.

The Market first opened in 1998 with only 12 stalls of fresh produce. The market grew rapidly and now boasts more than 150 stalls with at least 80 of them being food and fresh produce related.

This outing is for the whole family, including the dog, as there is something for everyone’s taste from traditional English sausages to handcrafted cheese, from healthy organic to decadent delights. It is wise to arrive early, and with a big basket, so you can peruse the stalls at a leisurely pace and stop to sample the goods and meet their makers.

The ambiance, the personal touch from buying from the makers themselves and the feeling of real community makes this the most authentic market around and keeps its visitors coming back each week.
