South Africa
skoonheid jy sal nooit vergeet nie

The Waterfall Trail is situated in the Tsitsikamma Region in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The trail lies within the Tsitsikamma section of the well-known Garden Route National Park. It is known as “Day One” of the hugely popular Otter Trail, covering the first 3 km’s of the five day trail. The waterfall trail will take about one and a half hours walk to the waterfall, 3 km, and again one and a half hours back. The trail is a total of 6 km and the starting time is very important, the latest starting times being at 13h30 in winter and at 14h30 in summer.

Starting at the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp, the trail is an Oceanside trail and is considered challenging due to the jagged and slippery terrain. The start is a fairly easy and leisurely stroll with some stairs and a few spots which requires some nimble footwork, but after the first kilometer, hikers will find themselves clambering up and over rocks along the way and the trail becomes quote strenuous. Extra care should be taken during high tide. The reward however, is a spectacular waterfall with a cooling pool that is perfect for a swim after the exhilarating hike and it is also a refreshing rest stop and way to regain your energy for the hike back!

There are not many shady places along the way so be sure to remember your hat and sunscreen as well as plenty of water. A good idea would be to take along your swimming gear and pack a picnic for when you reach the waterfall.
