History
The first white people settled in the area in 1882 and the following year a fight broke out between the baTlhaping and the Korana under David Mossweu.
The town was laid out in the 1920’s and named after the daughter of the farmer on whose land the town was founded. The farm was often used for church gatherings.
The name Stella means “star” and the reason for this naming could possibly derive from the region being known as Stellaland.
