Krokodil Sentrum

The Crocodile Research Centre in KwaZulu Natal of South Africa can be found in St Lucia, about 78 km from Richards Bay and 260 km from Durban.

The Crocodile Centre can be found within the Isimangaliso Wetland Park a recently declared World Heritage Site. Although the Centre has evolved into an educational and tourist facility, it still conducts vital research on crocodiles and annual numbers are undertaken.

Self-guided walks, with the aid of an informative booklet can be taken or you may prefer to book a guided tour. The Centre has all three species of African Crocodiles as well as snake park open to the public.

Monday – Friday: 7h30 to 16h30, Night feeding at 18h30 on Wednesdays, only in the Summer months

Saturdays; 09h00 to 17h00, Feeding Time 15h00

Sundays: 10h00 to 16h00, Feeding Time 11h30

Closed on Christmas Day & New Years’ Day

History

The Centre is managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and was established in 1979 by the late Tony Pooley. Originally a research centre for the study of crocodiles, the Centre has evolved into an educational and tourist facility showcasing the splendour of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
