The Komatiland Forestry Museum is situated in Sabie in the Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.

More than half the country’s timber comes from the Sabie area and so it is only natural the Museum was established here. The museum, also an information centre, is located right in the middle of this small town that offers visitors a unique insight into the history of forestry in South Africa.

On display visitors can see miniature carvings from an Anglo-Boer War prisoner from St Helena as well as a hand-made clothes peg made by Gypsies in Ireland over 100 years ago. On your own self-guided tour you can learn about forestry, from primitive days to the present, through different activities typical of plantation environment, sawmills and pulpmills.

There is also information on humans’ relationship with indigenous forests and their contribution to quality of life. Other than all the other interesting displays, the Museum is a fascinating way to learn all about wood!
