Clarence Drive was named after Jack Clarence who was responsible for replacing the footpath between Gordon's Bay and Rooi Els with a proper road. It was built with the help of Italian POW's during WW2 and stretches all the way from Gordons's Bay into Kleinmond and the heart of the Kogelberg Biosphere.

Clarence Drive also forms the first part of the Whale Route and offers a dramatic coastline, incredible beaches and phenominal views. The road is in beautiful condition and attracts visitors and locals as well as cyclists, particularly over the weekend, who come out to enjoy a fun filled day visiting towns such as Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond.

The route meanders along the mountainside, at some times right down to the level of the waves, allowing one the opportunity to stop at numerous viewing sites to enjoy beautiful views of False Bay and perhaps glimpse some Southern Right Whales.

If you are looking for a nice relaxing drive route ten this is the one, it is ideal for sightseeing, has plenty of photo opportunities and fabulous attractions along the way.
