South Africa
plekke wat jy nooit sal vergeet nie

The Potchefstroom Museum is situated in the town of Potchefstroom in the North West Province, South Africa.

The Museum combines the historical and cultural past of the area by explaining the story of four diverse characters, a Voortrekker leader, a President of the South African republic, an artist and finally a poet. Memories of these four men linger on in this picturesque Highveld town.

Andries Potgieter was the Voortrekker Leader who founded the town, President Pretorius made the town his home, Otto Landsberg had most of his artwork on permanent exhibition in the town and Totius was Potchefstrooms resident poet and writer whose lasting legacy was his translation of the Bible into Afrikaans.

The main historical themes of the Museum are The Great Trek, the South African Republic and the two wars of independence. The art gallery of the Museum showcases and impressive collection of Langberg’s work as well as pieces form other well renowned South African artists.

The President Pretorius Museum and Totius House Museum are also managed by the Potchefstroom Museum and are in close proximity, well worth a visit after.
