This restored Persian waterwheel is still in use on an irrigation canal along the main road of Keimoes.

In 1978 it was declared a National Monument.

In days gone by it was serious if the streams dried up as residents would have to dig in the riverbeds for water and therefore efforts were always made to keep the channels running with water wheels pumping the water.

Almost every house had its own water wheel mostly hand-made out of wood but as the upkeep was an on-going task, they were often out of order.
