Boesmanshoek Pass (Bushman’s Corner) is most likely so named because of the Khoi San nomadic hunter-gatherers who once lived in the caves at the time when game roamed freely in these plains.

The Pass is fairly short, but offers attractive views over a wide and deep, green valley. Boesmanshoek Pass is particularly attractive in summer when the hills are a blanket of greenery however, winter brings the snow as this is one of the highest passes in one of the coldest areas of the country, and the view of snow-capped mountains can be equally as attractive.

An interesting and attractive feature of the Pass is that it shares the mountainside with the railway line which is crosses under at the foot of the Pass. Also keep a lookout as you approach the Pass for the Doper Wind Farm, the largest of its kind in South Africa.

The short Pass has only six bends, five being and major and one minor, and all run concurrently down the northern slope of the mountain with no straight stretches – it is necessary to lower your speed along this section.
