History
About 200 years ago, The Coves Estate was owned by the farmer Andries Pretorius, the Boer leader at the Battle of Blood River and in those days the majority of the vegetables grown in the area were transported through this farm by ox wagon. An ancient ox wagon is well preserved and kept at a focal point in the Coves today. The original farmhouse has now become the Coves Clubhouse and the old barn has been put to use to stack the hay bales harvested at The Coves.
The Estate also served as a campsite for the Boers during the Anglo Boer War.
