plekke wat jy nooit sal vergeet nie

The Caledon Museum, in the town of Caledon, is a social history museum which is housed in two buildings. Both the Victorian House and Masonic Lodge are situated a few houses down from each other on the same street.

When visitors buy their admission tickets from one of the Museum buildings they receive entry into both. The Victorian House is small and beautifully maintained by the volunteer staff. It houses an abundance of artifacts that reflect the spirit and the legacy of the Caledon community dating from 1840 to 1900. The rooms still have the original wallpaper, a huge scrapbook details the history of the town and its' people and the Victorian kitchen still works – visit early on a Friday and watch the bead making demonstration then purchase a freshly baked loaf or two!

The Masonic Lodge offers a visual recollection of the coloured community of the area before the Group Areas Act was put into place in the 1950’s. It also has a “dungeon" room (dark room) downstairs which holds many artefacts from the local people and their surroundings.

Take a step back in time and learn about this beautiful town with its friendly people!
