South Africa
skoonheid jy sal nooit vergeet nie

The Bethlehem Museum is a Social and Cultural Historical Museum. The Museum is run by the Municipality and offers its visitors a look back into the lives of South Africans during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

The Bethlehem Museum is housed in the Nazareth Mission Church in Bethlehem. The sandstone building dates back to 1906, and therefore is in itself an attraction, being architecturally and aesthetically pleasing. It exhibits a number of historical items that would have been found in Boer homes, including furniture, clothing and farming equipment. It offers an interesting look into years gone by.

The Museum has a strong focus on the towns history and culture that depicts the lifestyle of its former residents and is also home to an interesting exhibit of war memorabilia. The gardens are home to an old Steam Locomotive that was used to travel between Cape Town and Mafeking around the turn of the century. Her youngsters can learn more about this method of travel that perhaps their great grandparents travelled by. If you lucky enough to catch the mini train, little ones can take train ride around the Museum gardens.

Bethlehem offers a few quaint restaurants where you can pop into afterward for a tasty lunch after your history experience.
